About Me

My name is Sara, I'm 28, and I live in Northern California.  I am a gym coach at Curves (which is why I will be talking about it frequently - I promise this is not some sort of underhanded advertising campaign!), a barista, and a freelance writer.  I've got a couple of degrees in Anthropology that I'm not actually using, unless you count being an interesting person to talk to.  The little bit of German I learned in college has actually been infinitely more useful than anything else I studied.  So, yeah, Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch.

I'm clearly very interested in health.  I spent most of my life being overweight, and not knowing why.  I tried crash diets, liquid diets, weird exercise programs, and a few more reputable choices such as Weight Watchers.  No matter what I did, the weight either wouldn't come off, or came back right away.  I've spent the last few years reading voraciously and talking to people to figure out where I went wrong.

Over time, I've developed a much more holistic and realistic approach to weight loss.  I don't want to lose weight to be 'skinny and pretty', I want to lose weight to be healthy, which means living longer, feeling better, and being able to do all sorts of things I never thought myself capable of.  Once I changed my perspective, my habits changed, and the weight started coming off at a slow but steady pace - and stayed off.

Being healthy is different for everyone.  For me, it is eating whole foods whenever possible, taking time to exercise almost everyday, having active jobs, drinking lots of water, and getting plenty of sleep.  I also make it a point to listen to lots of David Bowie - it's just plain good for the soul.
